Need Help Staying Motivated to Exercise?

You’re not alone if your motivation to exercise and eat healthy routinely comes and goes.  That’s an issue a lot of us face and one of the main reasons we tend to “fall off the wagon.”  A number of times, like after New Years, I seem to start strong and have the best of intentions, but after a week or two my gusto fades. One of the best ways I have found to keep motivated to stay consistent with my efforts is to set some sort of goal.  Perhaps you set a date for a shopping trip for new cloths, a vacation, a new bathing suite, have an upcoming wedding or reunion, or sign up for a race, walk, or other physical event.  For three times in a row now I have used a run / obstacle event as motivation to stay on track, keep pushing me forward, and keep me conscious of what I’m doing and eating.  Plus, it’s a team event so my teammates are counting on me too! You can check it out in more detail at http://www.USMCmudrun.org This is a 5.2 mile run + 34 boot camp obstacles put on by the marine core.  No wimpy event here, it’s also the largest mud run in North America.  Plus, all the proceeds benefit families of hurt or deceased marines.  It’s challenging and intense, but a lot of fun, oh, and dirty too! Anyway I have to train and prepare for it so my workouts and eating plans have purpose and support my goals; to get ready for this event and keep my body looking good.  I’m still able to exercise about 30 minutes a day, but those 30 minutes are intense, have purpose, and I’m super focused. To keep you motivated, your workout goal must be real and have a real date.  Go ahead, give it a try.  Book that beach trip, register for that run, or plan that shopping trip.  Then, stay focused, exercise and eat intentionally, and keep your eye on the prize; your goal and a better you!
